One might also come across categories such as local universities and a branch campus. A local university is the one that is founded and based in Dubai whereas a branch campus are the ones that are found in different countries and has a campus in Dubai.

University of Dubai
University of Dubai (UD) is the first private University in Dubai to hold AASCB international accreditation. It was founded in 1997 by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI). The curriculum that includes international professional certification bodies like the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) -UK, which awards BBA HRM and MBA leadership and HRM graduates with level 5 and 7. The college offers Computing and Information Systems program which is accredited locally in the UAE. All its programs are accredited by Scientific Research and internationally by the Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) in USA. The Higher Colleges of Technology
One of the most oldest (founded in 1988) and also the largest institutions for Higher studies in the UAE. The HCT provides post-secondary education in Engineering and technology, Computer and Information Science. English is the medium of instruction, with faculties which are recruited from around the world. There are 17 campuses throughout the country, with separate colleges for male and female. The central Administration is located in Abu Dhabi.

Biotechnology University College Dubai
This university is MOHESR accredited biotechnology university that offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in biotechnology, medicine and pharmaceutical studies, environmental and agricultural studies, petroleum and industrial studies and forensic and biometrics. Zayed University is one of the government funded higher education university in the UAE. It was established in 1998 by Emirati government. There are three main campuses; one of which is in Dubai. It offers bachelors and master’s degrees in arts, business, communication and media sciences, education, sustainable sciences and humanities, and technological innovation. Al Ghurair University
It is one of the private universities that was founded by Al Ghurair. It was established to fulfill the needs of the students and provide a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management, marketing, finance, banking, accounting, human resources management, entrepreneurship management, economics, supply chain and logistics management and information technology.

American University in Dubai (AUD)
The American University in Dubai was founded in 1995 and aims at providing a complete American standard learning. It has both US and UAE accreditation for all its programs. The science section includes the School of Engineering which has the following departments:

British University in Dubai (BUiD)
It is Middle East region’s first research based postgraduate university. University of Wollongong (UOWD)
University of Wollongong was the first foreign university to open in the UAE. The programs are offered in English language. The campus is located at Dubai Knowledge Park, an educational free trade zone campus that provides facilities for training and teaching.
